A tonal interaction basicly in a Minor, the piece starts with a single note in the bass, and chord in the right hand of the piano. The sort of introduction often heard since schubert.
As the cello enters in the third measure on the dominant, a journey is begun which will take the piece through several modulations as far away as the parallel major; safely landing back in a Minor for a satisfying conclusion.
